Biography
Morrigan O'Brien is a freelance flutist and teacher in Cincinnati, OH, where she is currently a candidate for the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in flute performance. She completed her Master of Music (2008) and Bachelor of Music (2007) degrees in flute performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Throughout her time at CCM, she has performed with the CCM Philharmonia Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, and several chamber ensembles. Morrigan also performs frequently with the Phoenix Woodwind Trio. Her principal teachers have included Randy Bowman, Dr. Bradley Garner, and Jack Wellbaum.
principal chairs in regional honor bands and orchestras throughout highschool, and was principal flute in Ohio All-State ensembles for 3 years. She performed in the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Great Miami Youth Symphony for 4 years. As a junior, Morrigan placed first in the prestigious Overture Awards Competition held at the Aranoff Center in Cincinnati. She performed a concerto with the Lakota East Symphonic Winds at the 2001 Ohio Music Educators Association conference. Morrigan has made concerto appearances with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Blue Ash Symphony Orchestra, the Mason Community Band, Lakota West Symphonic Winds, Lakota East Symphonic Winds, and was the featured performer at the 2003 Hamilton Mozart Festival.

Morrigan began her musical training at the age of 10, studying both piano and flute. She held
Morrigan won first prize in the National Flute Association High School Soloist Competition in
2003 and was selected as one of 6 semi-finalsits for the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition the following year. She aslo competed in several other national competitions, placing
third in the 2005 Frank Bowen Young Artist Competition and competing as a finalist in the 2005
Myrna Brown Young Artist Competiiton.
In 2003, Morrigan attended "Nordic Flute" in Gothenburg, Sweden, performing in masterclasses
taught by Swedish flutist Goran Marcusson. In the summer of 2006, she performed in the festival orchestra for The Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy. She participated in the Cincinnati Flute Symposium for 5 years, where she received instruction from world-renowned teachers. Morrigan has performed in masterclasses for Emmanuel Pahud, Jim Waler, Goran Marcusson, Jean-Michel Tanguy, Jill Felber, Randy Bowman, Brad Garner, and Jack Wellbaum.
Morrigan currently teaches over 30 students age 7-adult from the Greater Cincinnati area.
Her students have received numerous honors and have consistently won chairs in area youth orchestras, honor bands, and Ohio All-State ensembles. Lessons are taught at Morrigan's home in West Chester and at Finneytown High School, where she has also taught flute sectionals and has been an active part of the summer music clinic.
Morrigan performs for weddings, funerals, and other special events in the Cincinnati area. She
frequently performs recitals with pianist Alex Thio at CCM and in West Chester.
